I'm Singing My Heart Song.
How a dental cleaning called me back to my true magic: singing for Mama Earth.
Hello, Brave Beauties! We’re here to cheer each other on and share our creative joys and pains.
I could use a boost of Brave today. Am I the only one who…
Waded thigh-deep into a project that seemed like a good fit, but ultimately drained the spirit.
Felt yucky. Let the discomfort hang there, knowing it might point me somewhere.
Cried behind those weird sunglasses they give you at the dentist, while the hygienist scraped the f*$%@ out of my teeth.
If you want to share your brave, authentic, semi-weird creative voice, you may sometimes let other COOL, IMPORTANT THINGS distract you from doing the semi-weird part. It’s ok. It’s just your wildly creative Monkeys of self-preservation.🙈
Let’s be clear. We tend to adore OTHER people’s weirdness, e.g. Tiktok. But to let our potentially deeply weird selves out to play? That’s scary.
Here’s my deep-as-the-ocean, semi-weird love song:
Yesterday, I cried at the dentist. It hurt. But the deeper hurt was knowing I’d abandoned my heart’s true desire: to sing spontaneous songs and share them widely. Instead, I chose a safer place to put my attention (to write a super-challenging essay).1
The hygienist may have sensed my vibe. “Are you ok?”
I nodded, with that sucking thing dangling from my slobbery lips. I was great. Because I knew. I’ll do the scary, semi-weird thing I love most (even share this video.)
I adore singing for water, especially with a cold dip2. 🌊 This is my true heart, my spiritual practice, and my deepest joy. Sometimes these spontaneous songs have words, mostly not. My love for this Earth rises up from my heart and pours out of my throat. I sing for the sky, the air, the trees, the seagulls, the fishes, the people.
Yesterday, The Heart Song graciously published my story about singing:3
Dear Ones, we’re all made of stories we tell ourselves. And it’s ok. If you gotta do that other thing, it’s ok. It’s all truly, madly, deeply ok. Meanwhile, I’ll be singing.
You’re invited too! But mostly, ask your heart: What does she want from you?
Thanks for showing up in all the semi-weird ways! Please drop a Heart ❤️ or share this with someone who loves to sing (but maybe doesn’t so much). Big Love, Brave Ones!
PS: This Dance Your PhD video is super inspiring for your true self 🙌🏽 Plus Kangaroos!

I spent a month writing an essay on How to Save the World (for this contest). My Soul gave some warnings, but still, it made so much sense. I worked so hard, yet never loved the way it came together. All is well.
The water temp in my corner of the Salish Sea is mid-50s Fahrenheit. 🥶
Very cool. If you’re looking for new lyrics to put melodies on and record, I’ve started writing them after years of procrastination. And I think I’m improving rapidly! michael@thegoldenmean.us Meanwhile, I’m enjoying reading your writing. Our themes have plenty in common! 🤪💪🌞
Christine, do you ever come up with melodies and sing songs written by other songwriters??
