Ahhh, the blame game. We love to blame others to ease anxiety and discharge emotions about what’s really happening.  We’re the innocent ones, the victims, as we play the blame game wearing crooked halos, pointing fingers, shaking our heads at the injustice to avoid looking at our own shortcomings. It reminds me of the story of the King of Prussia touring a prison. The prisoners fell on their knees, protesting their innocence. One man stood alone and remained silent.

The king asked him why he was in prison.

"Armed robbery, Your Majesty."

"And are you guilty?"

"Yes. I entirely deserve my punishment."

The king's response?

"Guard, release this guilty person immediately. I cannot allow him to stay in this prison and corrupt all the innocent people here."

Wonderful story, Mary 🙏🏼 Thanks for piquing my curiosity further. Why do I feel called to straighten my halo? Why challenge this all-too-human tendency in myself? Maybe blaming is like a sugar habit. It tastes great, but then my pants don’t fit. 🤪

I think we like to blame others for our unhappiness. If it wasn't for [fill in the blank] that did [fill in the blank], we would be happy. We don't want to take responsiblity for the pain we experience. That would take effort and a hard look at ourselves. It's so much easier to blame others and justify overeating, drinking, bringe watching, and the other things we do make ourselves feel better. So we point fingers while claiming our innocent. It really makes sense when you think about it.

Thank you for this: blaming does make sense. Humans avoid pain. I want to learn from it. An overthinking, overachieving glutton for punishment! Programmed by a Zen Buddhist poet mom and minister psychologist dad with 2 PhDs. Yikes 😬

Ever had houseguests stay longer than three days? How did it go?

---

Actually had one stay for months and could have stayed longer because they really knew the space...exception rather than rule though...anything over two days eventually is a "are you still here" type of scenario...

What’s one thing other people do that boils your blood?

Do you let blame and judgment fester, or do you express yourself, wild and free? Which is better?

This makes me think of that saying, no idea where it comes from, to remember that every time you point your finger there are three more on your hand pointing right back at you.

Yes! 🙏🏼 Thanks. It's tougher when the finger pointing is internal, not LITERAL -- we can't see those mean little fingers pointing back at ourselves 🤪
