This literally changed my entire energy today and a friend called me in crisis and I was able to lead them through it too! So beauty-full! Christine, your exploration of sound as a tool for self-regulation opens up an important space for reconnecting with the body. I haven’t fully engaged with sound healing in the way you describe, though I’ve had glimpses of it in Tai Chi and Qi Gong. What you lay out here makes me curious about the subtleties of vibration and its role in shifting states. The way you describe the connection between voice, nervous system, and presence reminds me of something my Alexander Technique coach once shared from her background as an opera singer—how breath and resonance shape not just sound, but awareness. There's a depth here I want to sit with longer, especially once I’ve had time to engage with the video.

Thank you, Jay. Vickie Dodd, my sound healing mentor, trained many opera singers in Germany and Europe to release preconceived training about how their voice ‘should’ sound. Her primary teaching is deep listening to our bodies and giving voice to what wants to be heard and reflected. For me, sound awakened another mystical skill I’d never known was possible: seeing residue of past lineages (and past lives) inside my body and others. I became a co-teacher and sound energy healer. I worked with many Germans while in Costa Rica, using sound to move old traumas from war. Also many Jews. Truly an astonishing practice that made me feel fully alive and serving humanity. I stopped during Covid, returning slowly…

Christine, that sounds like an incredible journey—one that intertwines deep listening, embodiment, and transformation in such a profound way. Releasing the ‘should’ and must‘ from our voices, our bodies, our very being—that’s powerful work. I imagine working with both Germans and Jews in that way must have been deeply moving, unearthing layers of history still held in the body. It’s fascinating to hear that sound can reach places that language and thought often cannot. I hope your return to this practice, however slow, brings you back to that sense of aliveness and service you described.

Christine, I chuckled when I read the parenthetical part that read "without cookies, chips, wine, or bitching." Relatable. ☺️

What I learned most today was that I can IMAGINE the humming and it'll have the same effect on my nervous system. That's something I will try!

To answer your question, I have always been highly sensitive, so everything affects me. The current political and cultural climate feels the same to me as it always has, to be honest. Feeling safe is a lifelong endeavor.

And wow 😮 if the recent coup - tech bros breaking into the treasury to steal access to the purse - feels ‘normal?’

It’s True: if you look under the hood, our democracy is not clean, pure, fair or free of corruption. Our nation was built on horrific acts and our greed continues. Still, we all take for granted the everyday flow of federal funds - the lifeblood for so many.

As sensitives, we do need to protect our nervous systems from fears we can’t change. I don’t believe humans have evolved to handle knowing about all the nightmares happening across the globe at any given time.

I’m likely a MSP - medium sensitive person? 😳 complex PTSD means feeling safe is a higher priority than taking certain actions as a warrior.

Maybe why I’m only mostly brave? 🥰 thanks for joining me here!

I hear you, Christine. I have cPTSD, too. I meant that I've always lived in a state of alarm. I know that's not healthy, but I didn't realize it until a few years ago.

For those with complex trauma, a state of crisis helps them feel calm and confident and capable. I can relate to that.

I remember when COVID-19 struck the world, and I felt this mild annoyance at people's reactions, because I thought to myself, "I have been living like this for years - battling fears of an uncertain and unstable future."

So, I've had a lot to work through on the inside these last five years.
