Highlights, Lowlights & Your Creative Dreamings
Winter chill: a lovely time for rest and reflection.
Dear Brave Souls, we’re here to make our daily lives into works of art that we share with others. One of our family traditions is to share our highlights, lowlights, and gratitude for the day at dinnertime. As 2024 winds down, let’s take a moment to reflect on what lights you up, what feels heavy or hard, and the creative dreams that call to your heart.
Here’s what’s up with me:
Highlight: Taking care of our friends’ astonishingly sweet 6-month-old twins. Staring into their goofy faces for hours, playing, learning, and just being human, feels hopeful.
Lowlight: It’s winter; I’m grumpy at the cold and lack of light. Don’t love the holidays.
Grateful for: our local community of dancers, artists, writers, and musicians who co-create with a spirit of generosity (and work through challenges with transparency).
Creative Desire: Complete edits on my novel. Devote a day a week to singing projects.
What’s up with you?
What’s your Highlight these days? Lowlight? What do you feel grateful for?
May this prompt shine a light on what’s calling you forth:
Name one slightly brave creative desire.
Something that lights you up.
Something to make a difference, help someone, or shift the story (even if it feels small, like a drop in the ocean).
Something that has your name on it, even if it feels like a pain in the ass.
Something you’d like to let go of.
Something you’ve longed to do for quite a while.
What feels hard, or gets in the way?
Resistance. Lack of time. Lack of energy. Lack of focus.
Too much on your plate already. Effing holidays?
Name it and claim it. It’s okay!
How do you wanna meet this challenge?
Relax into trust: things work out for you.
Devote a tiny slice of your day, 15 minutes, to your desire.
Ask a buddy for support. Accountability.
Drop a comment. Share your intention. Make it so.
PS: Are you a Warrior of the Heart?
This feels especially true and compelling these days. Let me know how it strikes you.
“The sacred warrior conquers the world through gentleness, courage, and self-knowledge. The warrior discovers the basic goodness of human life and radiates that goodness out into the world for the peace and sanity of others.”
~ Chogyam Trungpa, “Shambhala: The Sacred Path of the Warrior”
Thank you for being (Mostly) Brave, and for being You. 💗 Please like this post, comment, or share with a friend, to encourage more of us to be fully ourselves.
More to come,
Highlight: finishing up an essay about my father I fad been estranged from while he was living and but in relationship since his death 40 years ago— now with even more understanding and love with
writing about him.
And sending it out to a contest. 🐾🐾
Lowlight: yes, the dark days of winter. Will have to have an outdoor fire soon.
Much love
